You only wanted the time, but the phone was the nearest clock — and the phone had other plans. This globe alarm clock ends that loop, giving you a glance-and-turn-over way to read the hour without reaching for your phone.

A painted metal sphere sits in a tilting ring that angles to meet your eye straight from the pillow, with a silent movement and luminous hands. In the small hours you glance, read, and turn over — the phone never enters the room.

  • Painted metal sphere in a tilting ring
  • Angles to meet your eye from the pillow
  • Silent movement
  • Luminous hands
  • Keeps the phone out of the bedroom

Overview

You did not mean to read email at 2am. You only wanted the time, but the phone was the nearest clock and the phone had other ideas. Meridian™ breaks that habit. It is a 9 cm sphere of painted metal behind domed glass, hung in a slim brass-tone ring so that the head tilts to meet your eye from the pillow and you do not have to sit up. The movement is silent, so the room stays as quiet as you left it. The hands are luminous, so at 2am you glance, read the time and turn over, and the screen stays in another room.

Care

Wipe the painted metal with a soft, dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Keep solvents and abrasive cleaners away from the brass-tone finish and the glass lens. Take out the battery if you store the clock for a season.

Materials

A painted metal sphere with a domed glass lens and brass-tone baton markers and hands, pivoting in a polished brass-tone yoke on a flat oval wire base. Silent quartz movement with luminous hands. Battery powered; battery not included. Size: 9 cm wide × 10.5 cm tall × 7 cm deep (3.54 × 4.13 × 2.75 in); weight approx. 250 g.

Small enough to go unnoticed

Ten and a half centimetres tall in its brass-tone ring. It takes one corner of the nightstand and leaves the rest for the lamp, the book and the glass of water.

Tilt it; no need to sit up

The globe turns in its yoke, so the face meets your eye from where your head already lies. It is a small thing, and it removes the one movement that wakes you completely.

Why Globe

A silent, luminous, tilting bedside clock in sage or charcoal: a small reason to stop charging your phone next to your head.

The tilt is the whole point

I sleep low on one pillow and every clock I've owned pointed at the ceiling. I angled this one once and haven't touched it since. I can read it at 4am without lifting my head off the pillow.

Finally, actual silence

My last bedside clock ticked and I only ever noticed on the nights I couldn't sleep, which is exactly when it mattered. This one makes no sound at all. The sage is softer in person than on screen.

The phone lives in the hallway now

I bought it as the one thing I needed before I could move the phone charger out of the bedroom. Six weeks in and the phone hasn't come back. Small object, disproportionate effect.

Frequently asked questions

What is its actual size?
9 cm wide, 10.5 cm tall with the ring base and 7 cm deep (3.54 × 4.13 × 2.75 in), about the size of a large apple resting in a small brass hoop. It is small on purpose.
Does it tick?
No. It has a silent quartz movement, so there is no click from a second hand, the sound you notice only on nights when you are already awake.
Can it be read in the dark?
The hands have a luminous finish that keeps a soft glow after the lights go out. It is enough for a glance and not enough to light the room, which is the intention.
Does the head actually tilt?
Yes. The sphere pivots in the brass-tone yoke, so you can tilt the face down towards the pillow or up towards a standing eyeline, and it stays where you leave it.
What powers it?
A battery, which is not included. With no cable and no charging it can stand anywhere, including a shelf far from a socket.
What Color Fit?
Sage is a soft, muted green that sits well with oak, linen and plaster. The hands, markers and ring stand are brass-tone.
